I heard the bells on Christmas day
. I heard the chimes on Christmas day
Their old commonplace hymns play,
What's more, wild and sweet the words rehash
Of tranquility on earth, cooperative attitude to men.
2. I thought how, as the day had come,
The spires of all Christendom
Had moved along th'unbroken tune
Of tranquility on earth, positive attitude to men.
3. What's more, in hopelessness I bowed my head:
"There is no tranquility on earth," I stated,
"For loathe is solid and ridicules the tune
Of tranquility on earth, positive attitude to men."
4. At that point chimed the ringers all the more noisy and profound:
"God isn't dead, nor doth he rest;
The wrong will come up short, the privilege win,
With tranquility on earth, positive attitude to men."
5. Till, ringing, singing, on its way,
The world rotated from night to day,
A voice, a toll, a serenade magnificent,
Of tranquility on earth, cooperative attitude to men!
